Jadranka Šepić

I am a professor of environmental physics at the Faculty of Science, University of Split.

I am devoted to the study of extreme sea levels, especially meteotsunamis. However, I am also interested in storm surges, tsunamis and other sea level fluctuations that can lead to extremes. I am particularly interested in historical sea level extremes, and I am happiest when I find a lost account of a flood or learn a legend about a flood (these do exist!).

I am also a European Research Council grantee and have led three other projects dealing with extreme sea levels.

I enjoy teaching at all levels: from primary and secondary schools, where I participate in hands-on oceanographic workshops, to giving lectures to my students at the University of Split and giving popular lectures to the general public.

I was born in Split, Croatia. I did my Master’s and PhD at the University of Zagreb, worked at the Institute of Oceanography (also in Split), and spent a year abroad at University of Balearic Islands in Palma de Mallorca, and at the Institute of Ocean Science on Vancouver Island, in beautiful British Columbia.

My husband Drago and I have three boys, and our favourite thing to do is spend a day at the beach.
