The harbour of Ancona encountered a strong tsunami and a seaquake: suddenly, high tide impinged on the coast, and the sea boiled (Boschi et al., 1995). The tsunami waves almost completely pulled out fence of harbour office and heavily damaged the docks. Moorings of an american ship were torn apart and the ship was smashed against the dock. Many fishermen in the harbour quickly disembarked from their vessels , frightened by the extraordinary movement of the water (<em>Il Corriere Padano<\/em>, 1930; <em>Il Messaggero<\/em>, 1930).
