The epicentre located on the coast close to Rimini. Following the earthquake, tsunami effects were noted at several locations (Serpieri, 1876, 1878, 1889): At Rimini fishermen in boats observed some big waves; in the harbour sea level was at high tide, suddenly it changed to low tide and 2 min later returned again to high tide. At Cervia the sea violently flooded a large stretch of beach, at Cesenatico some big waves flooded the beach, in Ancona sudden waves were observed at the beach coming from sea that was previously calm (L\u2019Arena, 1875).
