According to newspapers in the port (of Rijeka) the vessels staggered (Allgemeine Zeitung, 1838) and dashed against one another (Perrey, 1850, Mallet and Mallet, 1858, Ki\u0161pati\u0107, 1891-1895). This report does not give enough evidence that a tsunami was actually induced. However, a note in the diary of vicar from Kraljevica I. Randi\u0107 (Ki\u0161pati\u0107, 1891\u20131895) gives more information: \u201c<em>On 10 August at twilight we reached Rijeka and the boat brought the five of us to the land &#8230; Just as we made several steps, we felt rumble from underground, and then came a stroke which hit us as if we would fall down. The sailors said that the earthquake made the small boat jump and the large vessel wiggled and swung as if it were being launched into the sea<\/em>.\u201d This report does not exclude that this was a seaquake, so it is classified as a \u201cquestionable tsunami\u201d.
