On 17 May 1916 northeastern coast of Italy was hit by a destructive earthquake. This main shock was the first in a series that would last until December. The largest damage was felt in Rimini and nearby villages. However, a weak tsunami was induced by aftershock on 16 August that was particularly strong (VII MCS) along the coast. At Tavollo close to Pesaro, a fisherman in his boat about 700 m from the coast said that the sea was calm until suddenly he noticed four waves about 20 cm high travelling from the open sea toward the beach. As the waves passed his boat, his fishing tool moved and came up from the sea bottom. Then the waves reached the beach (Alfani, 1916; Boschi et al., 1997; Corriere della Sera, 1916; La Gazzetta di Parma, 1916). I = 3, R = 4.
