The online catalogue was created by Iva Me\u0111ugorac, Karla Jambro\u0161i\u0107, Domagoj Doli\u010dki, Josipa Kuzmi\u0107, Jadranka \u0160epi\u0107, Iva Vrki\u0107 and Goran Ga\u0161parac, and is regularly updated with the latest events as meteorological and sea-level data become available.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7be59a3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"7be59a3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The catalogue is based on hourly sea-level measurements at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pmf.unizg.hr\/geof\/en\/research\/oceanography\/tide-gauge_station_bakar\">Bakar<\/a> station (<a href=\"https:\/\/hrcak.srce.hr\/ojs\/index.php\/geofizika\/article\/view\/21485\/11576\">Me\u0111ugorac et al., 2022<\/a>;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.17882\/85171\">Me\u0111ugorac et al., 2024<\/a>) provided by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pmf.unizg.hr\/geof\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Department of Geophysics<\/a>, Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb (Croatia). The analysis of the sea-level measurements is supplemented by the analysis of atmospheric synoptic conditions during all events. For earlier flood episodes (before 1 January 1950), the analysis of meteorological background was performed using the NOAA-CIRES-DOE Twentieth Century Reanalysis Project version 3 dataset (<a href=\"https:\/\/rmets.onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/full\/10.1002\/qj.3598\">Slivinski et al., 2019<\/a>). For all other episodes, we used the global ERA5 reanalysis dataset (<a href=\"https:\/\/cds.climate.copernicus.eu\/cdsapp#!\/homehttps:\/\/cds.climate.copernicus.eu\/cdsapp%23!\/home\">C3S, 2017<\/a>;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/rmets.onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/10.1002\/qj.3803\">Hersbach et al., 2020<\/a>).<\/p><p>In order to investigate the effects of the floods, nine titles of serial publications in printed or microfilmed form in the <a href=\"https:\/\/nsk.hr\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National and University Library<\/a> were examined: <i>Hrvatski dnevnik<\/i>, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jutarnji.hr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jutarnji list<\/a><\/em>, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nn.hr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Narodne novine<\/a><\/em>, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.novilist.hr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Novi list<\/a><\/em>, <i>Obzor<\/i> (Zagreb, 1920), <i><a href=\"https:\/\/primorskenovine.me\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Primorske novine<\/a>,<\/i> <i><a href=\"https:\/\/slobodnadalmacija.hr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Slobodna Dalmacija<\/a><\/i>, <i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vecernji.hr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ve\u010dernji list<\/a><\/i> and <i>Vjesnik<\/i>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2a0111e elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"2a0111e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Extreme sea-level episodes were defined as occasions when the measured sea level exceeded the 99.99th percentile threshold (89 cm for 1929\u20132022) (example in Figure 3). Consecutive sea levels that exceeded the given threshold were combined into one event, which is represented by the maximum sea level reached during that event.
