The descriptions of the event in newspaper articles (<a href=\"https:\/\/projekti.pmfst.unist.hr\/floods\/meteotsunamis\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Vecernji_list_16_August_2008.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">Ve\u010dernji list, 16 August 2008<\/a>;&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/projekti.pmfst.unist.hr\/floods\/meteotsunamis\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Slobodna_Dalmacija_17_August_2008.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">Slobodna Dalmacija, 17 August 2008<\/a>;&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/projekti.pmfst.unist.hr\/floods\/meteotsunamis\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Vjesnik_18_August_2008.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">Vjesnik, 18 August 2008<\/a>) corroborate his observations and also mention a thunderstorm that occurred in the wider Mali lo\u0161inj area at the time.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6c0753b3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"6c0753b3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>An increase in high-frequency variability was also recorded by a number of digital tide gauges concurrently operating in the North Adriatic, but nowhere did the amplitudes reach the values reported for Mali lo\u0161inj. Herein we show sea level oscillations recorded by the ~80 km distanced Bakar tide gauge. High-frequency sea level oscillations in Bakar were intensified from ~18:00 to 24:00 UTC. The maximum oscillation with a 109.8 crest-to-trough height was recorded at 22:46 UTC.&nbsp;<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-102339d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"102339d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt; line-height: 107%; font-family: Montserrat; background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;\">The meteorological conditions coinciding with the event were studied by&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-size:13.5pt;line-height:107%;font-family:Montserrat\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S1474706509001053\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;\">Belu\u0161i\u0107 and Strelec Mahovi\u0107 (2009)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;\">, who detected a strongly developed mesoscale convective system in the area. The synoptic setting was also assessed by&nbsp;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S1474706509001089\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;\">Vilibi\u0107 and \u0160epi\u0107 (2009)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;\">. I<\/span><span style=\"color: black; background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;\"><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">dealised numeric simulations, covering the broader northern Adriatic, area were performed&nbsp;by&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/full\/10.1002\/2015JC010795\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;\">\u0160epi\u0107 <i>et al.<\/i> (2015b)<\/span><\/a>, and a higher resolution modelling, using ADCIRC with included flooding and drying algorithm, by<span style=\"color: black; background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1007\/s11069-020-04444-4\" target=\"_blank\"> Bubalo <i>et al. <\/i>(2021)<\/a><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">.&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-38f9863 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"38f9863\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>A weak low was centered over Croatia, and weak sirroco wind (&gt; 10 m\/s), was blowing along the Adriatic Sea. At the 850 hPa height, tongue of warm air mass was spreading from the western Sahara, across the central Mediterranean to the middle and southern Adriatic. As a result, an upper level temperature front was present over the Adriatic Sea. At the 500 hPa level, a trough was located over the western Mediterranean and the Adriatic Sea.
