Suddenly, in a few seconds, the sea receded some 10-15 m from the coast so that many boats hit the bottom, whereupon some boats were carried to the land by the returning high tidal wave.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7c79edb elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"7c79edb\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt; line-height: 107%; font-family: Montserrat; background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;\">The cause of the event was studied in detail by\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt; line-height: 107%; font-family: Montserrat;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/full\/10.1029\/2008JC005092\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;\">\u0160epi\u0107\u00a0<i>et al.<\/i>\u00a0(2009)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;\">, and it was found that a few-millibar air-pressure perturbation propagated above the area at a speed of approximately 21-24 m\/s. The speed turned out to be almost identical to the speeds previously determined for the 1978 event in Vela Luka (<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/jadran.izor.hr\/~sepic\/meteotsunami_catalogue\/Orlic_1982.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;\">Orli\u0107, 1980<\/span><\/a><span style=\"background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;\">) and the 2003 event in Stari Grad (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/full\/10.1029\/2004JC002279\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;\">Vilibi\u0107\u00a0<i>et al.<\/i>, 2004<\/span><\/a><span style=\"background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;\">).\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: black; background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;\"><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">I<\/span><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">dealised numeric simulations, covering the broader northern Adriatic, area were performed\u00a0by\u00a0<\/span><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/full\/10.1002\/2015JC010795\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;\"><span style=\"background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;\">\u0160epi\u0107\u00a0<i>et al.<\/i>\u00a0(2015b)<\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: black; background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;\"><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">, and a higher resolution modelling, using ADCIRC with included flooding and drying algorithm, by<\/span><a style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink: none;\" href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1007\/s11069-020-04444-4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a0Bubalo <i>et al.\u00a0<\/i>(2021)<\/a><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-650bd05 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"650bd05\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Sea level measurements from the ~120 km distanced Bakar tide gauge station revealed increased high-frequency activity at the time of Ist meteotsunami, with the short period sea level oscillations reaching almost 100 cm at ~20:00 UTC, some 4-5 hours after peak oscillations in \u0160iroka Bay.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b249463 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b249463\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt; line-height: 107%; font-family: Montserrat; background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;\">Synoptic situation over Europe during the 2022 Ist meteotsunami is reminiscent of the situation during the 1984 Ist meteotsunami (<a href=\"https:\/\/projekti.pmfst.unist.hr\/floods\/meteotsunamis\/15-ist-island-5-october-1984\/\" target=\"_blank\">Event 15<\/a>). A weak pressure low was centered over the northwest Europe, but with no pronounced pressure gradients to the south and east of it. Thus, surface winds over the Mediterranean were weak. At the 850 hPa level, a tongue of warm air was advancing from the western Sahara, across the central Mediterranean to the Adriatic Sea. As a result, a temperature front developed over the Adriatic Sea. At the 500 hPa height, a distinct closed low was centered over the northwest Europe, at its front side, strong southwesterly upper level winds (up to ~35 m\/s) were blowing over the western Mediterranean and the Adriatic Sea.
