That was not the case on 24 May, so we asked the local people (who were also very surprised at the phenomenon), but they could offer no explanation as to why this should happen in May.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">Then I heard of the \u201cresaca\u201d in Menorca, which destroyed 40 boats, and after a bit of research, discovered that these waves can also happen due to an abrupt change in atmospheric pressure, which was the case in Croatia in May.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4dfb8f9 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4dfb8f9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt; line-height: 107%; font-family: Montserrat; background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;\">A weak low was centred over the\nsouthern Italy and southern Adriatic, not resulting with pronounced winds over\nthe Adriatic Sea. At the 850 hPa level, a tongue of warm air was advancing from\nthe central Sahara across the Central Mediterranean to the Adriatic Sea and\nfurther into the continental Europe. As a result, a pronounced temperature\nfront developed over the Adriatic Sea. At the 500 hPa level, a shallow trough\nwas located over the northern Mediterranean. At the front side of this trough,\nstrong winds&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt; line-height: 107%; font-family: Montserrat; color: black; background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;\"><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">(up to ~40 m\/s)&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">were blowing over the Adriatic Sea.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size:13.5pt;line-height:107%\"><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(18) Vrboska, 24 May 2006 Figure 1.
