The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/jadran.izor.hr\/~sepic\/meteotsunami_catalogue\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">second version<\/a>, and all latter versions&nbsp;of the catalogue, have been built by Jadranka \u0160epi\u0107 and Mirko Orli\u0107, by taking into account and scrutinizing the additional information, as it became available. The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/jadran.izor.hr\/~sepic\/meteotsunami_catalogue\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">second version<\/a>&nbsp;was hosted online by the Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries in Split. The third version of the catalogue is presented herein. This version has been built with support of Hrvoje Mihanovi\u0107 (Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries, Split), Iva Me\u0111ugorac and Iva Vrki\u0107 (both from Department of Geophysics, Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2a0111e elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"2a0111e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The initial information used to build the present catalogue is contained in a couple of papers (Zore-Armanda, 1988; Tabain and Tabain, 1994), as well as in the notes kept by Mirko Orli\u0107 over the last thirty or so years. For all the dates when tsunami-like waves possibly occurred, newspapers were inspected to find articles describing the waves. The first cases considered were from the early 1930s because prior events were usually attributed to the year only and are therefore not easily verified. Two verifications were performed for all of the dates.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-06a8c1b elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"06a8c1b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The first check was a comparison with an earthquake catalogue (<a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1111\/j.1365-3121.1996.tb00728.x\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Herak et al., 1996<\/a>, with updates) to ensure that an event in the sea was not preceded by a major earthquake. It turned out that only one of the initial cases \u2013 the event of 15 April 1979 \u2013 was a tsunami, and it was therefore not included in the present catalogue.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3c093c2 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"3c093c2\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The second check was a comparison with sea level records from Bakar (hourly data:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.seanoe.org\/data\/00740\/85171\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Me\u0111ugorac et al., 2023<\/a>), the oldest Croatian tide-gauge station, with the aim of detecting a possible storm surge in the Adriatic on the day considered. Because the occurrence of tsunami-like waves of meteorological origin may coincide with the development of storm surge, inexperienced observers may easily confuse the two phenomena. Consequently, all cases when the sea level at Bakar surpassed the mean sea level by 50 cm were marked in the catalogue to indicate that additional data and\/or modelling may be needed to verify their true nature. To each event, an indicator of the quality of available information was assigned. The indicator was selected from a five-grade scale as follows:<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-dab2d3c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"dab2d3c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p style=\"line-height: var(--wp--typography--line-height, var(--global--line-height-body));\">(1) elementary description of sea-level variability;\u00a0<\/p><p style=\"line-height: var(--wp--typography--line-height, var(--global--line-height-body));\">(2) advanced description of sea-level variability;\u00a0<\/p><p style=\"line-height: var(--wp--typography--line-height, var(--global--line-height-body));\">(3) description of sea-level variability combined with an analysis of meteorological data;\u00a0<\/p><p style=\"line-height: var(--wp--typography--line-height, var(--global--line-height-body));\">(4) analysis of oceanographic and meteorological data supplemented by oceanographic or meteorological modelling, and\u00a0<\/p><p style=\"line-height: var(--wp--typography--line-height, var(--global--line-height-body));\">(5) analysis of oceanographic and meteorological data combined with both oceanographic and meteorological modelling.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2433d61 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"2433d61\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p style=\"margin: 0cm; background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt; font-family: Montserrat; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial; color: #767171; mso-themecolor: background2; mso-themeshade: 128; mso-style-textfill-fill-color: #767171; mso-style-textfill-fill-themecolor: background2; mso-style-textfill-fill-alpha: 100.0%; mso-style-textfill-fill-colortransforms: lumm=50000;\">This version of the catalogue is supplemented with analysis of synoptic conditions during all events.
